The DOGE team turned down the budget proposal, heightening the chances of a government shutdown. Budget reconciliation is crucial because Congress (both the House and Senate) has not yet passed a budget for the fiscal year 2025. The DOGE team doesn't fully understand that running the government isn't like running a business. In business, a CEO can unilaterally cut spending or eliminate a function. In government, it's much more complex, as both the House and Senate must separately agree on a budget and then reconcile any differences. With slim majorities in each chamber, it becomes challenging for either to impose terms. If the Department of Government Efficiency doesn't take the time to understand the budgetary and political process, they might end up being labeled the Dumbest of Government Employees.
